Integrating technology in the classroom is going to be a long process. I think that forcing teachers to use technology is a bad way to integrate technology. If a teacher is forced to integrate they will not use the technology properly. The attitude of teachers torwards being forced to integrate will be evident to the students in their classes. My thought is that technology will not be used to it's current full potential until most of the older generations of teachers are no longer teaching. Current teachers, for the most part, were not raised with technology in the household and I think very little can see the advantages of it. These teachers will be very hard to convince that technology can play a crucial role in their classrooms. They have used the old ways and chances are they have worked for them. The pros and cons have to be weighed out and for these teachers the cons will be tough to overcome. Without the basic knowledge of how these tools work, most of these teachers will be scared to try something new to them in their classroom. The coming generation of preservice teachers will be more adept at technology and be better prepared to integrate technology in the class. In fact, I doubt there will be much of any integration. It will be part of the classroom from the beginning. So, I think it is a natural transition, or evolution that will inevitably take place and is in a phase of great change. Many current teachers may have tecnology in their but are not using it properly. Teachers use smart boards as merely a projector screen or if they use the technology at all the use it as a replacement for the white board. Many teachers will never fully use the smart boards other integrative technologies. This is caused by two factors. First, they may not know the full capabilities of the smart board due to a lack of training and knowledge. The second reason is they are scared to use the technology, a fear of change. Many things can go wrong when using technology in class, but I believe that when properly trained then both of these reasons can be resolved.
